experience, by teaching life skills and ownership of weekly responsibilities in a therapeutic environment.

What you may not know: every purchase at Deer Creek Farm goes directly to Compassion Planet — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that mentors aged-out foster youth and young adults from at-risk backgrounds. The staff you meet, the youth you see working — they are our program participants, building the skills, work history, and confidence to launch truly independent lives.

The Deer Creek Farm Garden & Market is one of Compassion Planet's most unique social enterprises — and one of our most powerful training environments.
Participants in our SPARKS seed-to-sale agricultural track learn every step of the process: planting seeds, cultivating crops, harvesting produce, designing the market display, and serving customers. By the time they complete the track, they understand horticulture, retail operations, customer service, and the deep satisfaction of growing something with their own hands.
Beyond job skills, the garden has therapeutic value. Research consistently shows that time spent in natural environments reduces stress, builds emotional regulation, and improves mental health outcomes. For our youth — many of whom have experienced trauma, instability, and hopelessness — this matters deeply.
The Garden also connects Compassion Planet to the broader community through volunteer opportunities and serves as a revenue generator that directly funds our mission.
Compassion Planet holds agricultural approval from both Placer County and the USDA for producing and selling seasonal harvests for public consumption — reflecting our commitment to quality, safety, and community accountability
Year-round, our participants are involved in far more than growing: they assist with construction and grounds projects, design and staff pop-up markets, create and sell holiday merchandise, and take meaningful ownership of the enterprise they help run.

Compassion Floral
Through a generous partnership with Trader Joe's, Compassion Planet receives donated fresh flowers and gives them a second life. Each day, our volunteers and interns sort, clean, and arrange the blooms into beautiful fresh bouquets available for purchase at Deer Creek Farm Garden & Market. It's hands-on training in floral design, attention to detail, and customer-facing retail — and it means you can stop by and pick up a stunning bouquet while supporting meaningful work in our community.
