Our Remarkable Story
started in 2011 out of a heart to provide hope & a positive future for our under-served youth in the Greater Sacramento area.
Compassion Planet was formed by Scott and Jacquie Flanagan and originally, started out as a food closet in Placer County with events, such as, The Heart of Oak Park, which provided free groceries, free medical, free bikes and bike repair to area. As CP evolved, Scott and Jacquie met a foster youth about to be emancipated from the foster care system and at risk to be homeless. It was at this moment, they realized there was a need. As a young married couple, they took him in, helped him find and keep a job and mentored him in basic hygiene and life skills - the mission of Compassion Planet became clear.
In 2012, CP acquired a thrift store in Rocklin and in 2013, added a retail home décor, gifts and vintage finds boutique, called Deer Creek Farm in Historic Rocklin. In the same location, in 2019, CP opened DCF Garden & Market, a Placer County approved garden selling seasonal fruits and vegetables along with locally made delicacies, such as jellies and honey.
Together with these sustainable non-profit businesses along with generous support, the Compassion Planet dream became a reality. In 2014, the first group of trainees were brought into CP's Mentoring Program. Now, twice a year, CP continues to bring groups of incredible young people through the program. Their stories and journeys are astounding, and CP is privileged to be a part of their family!

Financials
When you give to Compassion Planet, 89.57% of our total revenue goes directly to our Mentoring Programs, 5.90% goes to fundraising, and 4.53% goes toward management and administrative expenses.
